March 3, 2023NOTIFICATION OF OPENING OF HCV (SECTION 8) PROGRAM WAIT LIST
The Springfield Metropolitan Housing Authority (SMHA) Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program (previously known as Section 8) provides rental assistance in the private housing market for very low-income families who qualify for assistance.
The HCV waiting list last opened in July 2019 and will reopen beginning Tuesday, November. 8, 2022.
To apply during the opening period, applications will be taken on specific dates and times: Tues. Nov. 8, 2022 (9:00am -11:00am & 2:00pm – 4:00pm), Thurs Nov. 10, 2022 (2:00pm – 4:00pm), Tues. Nov. 15, 2022 (9:00am-11:00am), and Tues. Nov. 22, 2022 (9:00am-11:00am & 2-4pm). The location to apply is 2026 W Main Street.
This waiting list has the following preferences:
LEASE IN PLACE (NEW)
The current property owner or owner’s authorized representative must certify that said applicant household is a current tenant who has resided in the unit for a minimum of three months in either Clark or Champaign County and that the owner is willing to enter an HCV Housing Assistance Payments (HAP).
VETERANS
An applicant who can document that they are: 1) a veteran with service-connected disability or 2) a family of a deceased veteran whose death was service-connected.
RENT BURDENED 40% OF INCOME
An applicant who can document that they are paying more than 40% of their monthly gross family adjusted income (adjustments for dependent allowance, medical expenses, etc.) toward monthly housing costs (rent and utilities).
HOMELESS (NEW)
Applicant must be currently homeless and must be able to provide third party documentation of their homelessness
ELDERLY (NEW)
An applicant or spouse who is sixty-two (62) years of age or older.
Once the application has been completed, it must be returned with ALL required documentation on specific dates and times. Applicants will be placed on the waiting list by preference (priority) and date and time of the application.
Reasonable Accommodation
Applicants who need help completing the application due to disability can make a reasonable accommodation request to the housing authority via (937-325-7331)
