There is a waiting list for housing. The wait depends on a number of variables, including bedroom size, unit availability, and what an applicant qualifies for under the HUD guidelines. SMHA does not have emergency housing. SMHA does have preferences, including veteran, homeless, 40% rent burden, displaced, disabled, and elderly (62 or older).

For housing applications for SMHA-owned and operated properties, call 937-325-7331 to request an application for submission to the SMHA main office, located at 101 West High Street.

For applications or to apply to the housing waiting list, visit the SMHA office at 101 W. High St., Springfield, Ohio, 45502. Public housing applications may be received from 9 a.m. to 11:59 a.m., and from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. (The office is closed from noon to 1 p.m. weekdays.) SMHA does NOT have emergency housing; however, we do place preference to veterans, the homeless/displaced, 40% rent-burdened applicants, those actively in the workforce, and those aged 62 and older.
